WE THANK ALL OF OUR WINERY
AND HOME WINEMAKER CLIENTS IN 2008!!

Located in the heart of the Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma County, Tzabaco Rancho Vineyards produces some of the finest wine grapes in California. Established in 1856, this family owned vineyard produces premium winegrapes for a number of major wineries and an enthusiastic clientele of home winemakers.

Home winemakers can pick or have us pick your grapes and crush them in our stainless steel Zambelli crusher for free! We can provide your beginning winemaking additive needs: initial SO2 addition, enzymes, yeast nutrients, yeast (ICV D254) and ML bacteria (Enoferm Alpha). We hope to ensure that your winemaking experience is off to a great start! Iinitial enology advice is available from a UC Davis trained enologist, Janice Schmidt, who enjoyed 20 years of enological experience at Jordan Vineyard and Winery before retiring to experience and guide the very beginning of the winemaking process that starts with nurturing the grapes in the vineyard.

Summer 2007 - TZABACO RANCHO CABERNET WINS GOLD MEDALS AT THE ORANGE COUNTY AND STATE FAIR HOMEWINE COMPETITIONS!
Great news from Ron & Maria P., for winning gold medals for two different vintages of Tzabaco Rancho Cabernet. The 2005 Cabernet won a gold medal at the The Orange County Wine Society and the 2006 Cabernet won a silver. At the California State Fair in Sacramento, the 2006 Cabernet won a gold medal. Thanks to both for a job well done - over two different vintages!!

Summer 2006 - TZABACO RANCHO CABERNET WINS BRONZE AND SILVER MEDALS AT THE STATE FAIR HOMEWINE COMPETITION!
Exciting news from two different homewinemakers who participated in the State Fair Homewinemaking Competition. Greg M. was awarded a silver medal with 91 points for his 2005 Cabernet and a second homewinemaker, making his first batch of wine at home, received a bronze medal. We are so happy that even new homewinemakers are being successful with their homewinemaking efforts!!

Summer 2005 - TZABACO RANCHO MERLOT WINS COVETED GOLD MEDAL AT THE ORANGE COUNTY HOMEWINE COMPETITION!
Our congratulations to Dick I. & Bob H. for winning a coveted gold medal for their 2003 Merlot, made entirely from Tzabaco Rancho grapes. Of more than 604 wines submitted, only 52 received gold medals. According to Dick, their wine was just 1/2 point away from a double gold, of which only 15 were given. The Orange County Wine Society, in conjunction with the Orange County Fair, sponsors one of the largest and most prestigious Homewine Competitions in California, devoted to amateur winemaking.

Thank you for your interest in our Dry Creek Valley winegrapes!

"I have had the good fortune to work with Merlot from Tzabaco Rancho for more than a dozen years. This site in the heart of Dry Creek Valley is well suited to growing top quality Merlot. Both Brian and Janice Schmidt are committed to growing high quality grapes and understand the concept of being not merely 'growers' but 'winegrower'. They have worked hard to stay abreast of new vineyard practices and implement them to continually improve the grapes they grow. I use their Merlot fruit in the Lambert Bridge Merlot blend-our flagship varietal-and also in our Crane Creek Cuvee-our prestige meritage blend." Julia Iantosca, Former Winemaker - Lambert Bridge Winery

"I have made excellent wine using Tzabaco Rancho grapes for 15 years. My job and product has been greatly enhanced by the hands on approach to grape growing with state of the art technology that Bryan and Janice practice in there vineyards. This is a fifth generation family from the Dry Creek Appellation of Sonoma County made up of real people. That is to say they have a conscience and they care about the wines (grapes) they grow so that the wineries they sell their grapes to can produce excellent wines. My success as a winemaker depends on the quality of the grapes I ferment. Tzabaco Rancho grapes are paramount to Burnett Ridge Winery." - Chip Emmerich, owner of Burnett Ridge (Cincinnati, OH)
